Can Ealey Shake Off S.I. Jinx

A regional cover of Sports Illustrated’s SEC preview featured young Washaun Ealey – quite a preseason honor for a true sophomore on the same team with NFL-bound wideout AJ Green. Ealey was not even an official starter yet; that distinction at running back given to Caleb King for his more consistent blocking. Ealey then drives without a valid license, bangs into a parked vehicle, leaves the scene, is busted, is suspended and watches the Louisiana-Lafayette massacre from the sideline. Caleb yields to Carlton Thomas after an injury, that eventually keeps him out of the big road test @Carolina. FAIL. Dawgs fail the road test by posting a paltry six points on the Columbia scoreboard. Trailing 14-6 and on a long drive to take the potential game-tying touchdown and conversion, Ealey is popped and drops the rock on the Gamecock three. He ends up with only seventy-five yards rushing, and the team never scores a touchdown that day and never even offensively challenges Carolina again. With explosive yet defense-challenged Arkansas coming to town this weekend, UGA will for the first time this season have both primary ball carriers playing in the same game. We must control the clock and put up points, and Ealey must lead the way with a dominant performance that ignites Caleb King and the whole Georgia offense. We are averaging an SEC worst 3.9 yards per carry through the first two games and our passing offense is playing without our primary weapon. We must run the ball well to have a chance.
