Why LSU is a Must-Win
The LSU Fighting Tigers (11-18) have dropped eleven of twelve games and now face a talented University of Georgia Bulldogs team at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens (Wednesday, 8:00 p.m.). Georgia has avoided what the NCAA tournament selection committee dubs “Bad Losses” all season long, while compiling nineteen wins. Twenty wins is usually the benchmark for NCAA tournament entry for any program from a major basketball conference with a decent RPI (rating power index) and decent strength of schedule, such as UGA this season. With a road trip to SEC West leader Alabama looming Saturday at 1:30 p.m., clearing the twenty-win plateau would be monumental for Georgia. Mark Fox’s team was last in the SEC last season, and can reposition itself from solidly on the bubble to in the tournament with a win at home tonight. Look for senior Jeremy Price to have a big game inside on Senior Night and juniors Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie to score at will, in what could be their last ever home game should they forego their senior seasons for early entry into the NBA.
