Richt in The A
Not as important what was said here tonight in the Galleria of Greater Metro Atlanta where head football coach Mark Richt spoke, as it is how GEORGIA plays here this year. How and when. The SEC East title is a must-have now, and a third SEC ring sure would be nice, although basically no one is picking our Dawgs to upset the eventual SEC West champ. Getting to the SEC title game in Atlanta for a 4th time is Richt’s very obtainable initial goal for the season.
Sure, it hurt once and was oh so tragic once, but Richt is 9-1 against Jim Donnan’s biggest rival – Tech is not our biggest rival – Florida is. Winning versus Florida and/or winning the SEC East – that is what we want.
Beating Boise in Atlanta on September 3rd would kickstart a big season and propel us to an even bigger game when 5-loss returning SEC East champ South Carolina travels to Athens in week 2. Ouch! We were weak for 2 straight seasons. Joe Cox’s 8-win failures look pretty good compared to Murray’s 7-loss utter failures, which finished the year by losing a game – not to Florida and the Mighty Gators – but to the Conference USA Central Florida Mickey Mouse Golden Knights by scoring only 6 total points. Embarrassment. We can’t stand for it as a program. And signing the Dream Team may help us feel better as a fan base. But if UGA starts 0-2, the murmurs will become loud yells.
UGA must beat Tech again in Atlanta this year. And UGA must beat Carolina ‘Tween the Hedges in week 2. And UGA must make it back to Atlanta, and must fight hard for an SEC title regardless of outcome. And it is past time we beat the Florida Gators.
It starts – THIS BIG FOOTBALL SEASON – right here in the capital of the South with Boise. …Boise…they have lost twice in 3 years. While we have dropped 12 games over the past 2.
