Dawgs Close Carolina Out
Playing with a dwindling lead in Columbia, South Carolina Saturday afternoon, Georgia basketball found enough moxie to persevere against a young but scrappy Gamecock squad. Georgia got off to a hot start to the contest and led by a wide margin at the intermission. Carolina got it cooking in the second half – especially late – and was getting the loose balls and the calls. Fortunate the clock finally ran out and determined to somehow hold on before that – Georgia claimed a rare SEC East road win and now prepares for the Vanderbilt Commodores, making a trip to the Classic City on Wednesday. Georgia dropped a close one at Vandy in the teams’ last meeting this season and faces a hot-shooting Commodores team that recently beat Kentucky. This is practically a must-win home game for Mark Fox and company, as the conference schedule immediately toughens with a two-game stretch of divisional road tests at Tennessee and Florida.
