Dawgs Again at Top of SEC Selections

With six players taken apiece, the University of Georgia and LSU tied for the most SEC players drafted into the NFL this season. Georgia continues to lead all other programs in the SEC in number of players drafted over the past decade. It’s gotten to the point that Mark Richt is being criticized for underperformance comparable to the amount of NFL talent at UGA. After scoring twenty-three touchdowns in just thirty-two games, AJ Green went 4th overall to the Cincinnati Bengals. UGA has now had three players taken high in the 1st round over the past three seasons: Stafford 1st overall, ’09; Moreno 12th overall, ’09.

Linebackers Justin Houston and Akeem Dent were taken in the 3rd round. Houston went to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he should immediately improve the team’s pass rush, and Dent stayed instate with the Atlanta Falcons. O-lineman Clint Boling is joining AJ in Cincy (4th round). Good to see Kris Durham taken so early as well (4th round, Seattle). My Dallas Cowboys {Editor’s note: I’m a 3rd-generation fan from Austin and Ft. Worth, Texas; moved to GEORGIA in 1976; graduated UGA 1998} took solid fullback Shaun Chapas in the 7th round. Chapas was a fan favorite during his time Between the Hedges.
