Georgia-Florida Week

The red hot University of Georgia Bulldogs are coming off a big win at Tennessee and facing their biggest rival this Thursday. At football schools, rivalries ring true, and the fact that the University of Florida has mostly owned the Dawgs at the site of the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville for over twenty years now resonates anytime the two schools meet in any sport.

Florida has also risen to heights in NCAA basketball, while Georgia has been a program plagued with what-could-have-beens and Tony Coles. We were last in the SEC last year and are already solidly on the bubble. A win in Gainesville would practically ensure eventual NCAA Tournament entry, as home games against S. Carolina and LSU look favorable considering their poor records.

The last time these teams met, Georgia made a valiant comeback at home to send the game into overtime. At the end of the first overtime period, Florida hit a desperation three that could have been prevented with a Mark Fox designed foul. To the upset of an all day raucous home crowd, double overtime saw Florida pull away. It was a tough loss. Georgia has many rivals but this rivalry matters the most to us. I’ll publish my old award-winning poem “Cocktail Party” in honor of all the Georgia fans whom have had to endure this run by Florida. GO DAWGS!
